7-15-10 Howdy Anglers, The trout fishing has been great down in the Lagoon and when the wind lays the Redfish action has been pretty good to. Lately the trout action has been good, catching a lot of fish between 15inches and 23 inches. Al ot of the bigger trout have not shown up yet and were waiting for them as soon as this wind slows down. Redfish have been in the potholes and the bait of choice is live mullet or mud minnows. August usually means dead calm, and that means fishing the surf for trout and reds and then hitting the rigs for some ling. If you have not ever fished the surf you need to get down here and get some of it. Give me a shout.

7-15-10  The fishing in Rockport is great. The warmer water has moved the speckled trout to deeper water and redfish are working shallow bars and flats during early morning. As the summer heat begins to take hold and the tides recede from Alex and Tropical Depression No. 2, we will see redfish concentrating a little. Baits of choice will be cut menhaden, cut mullet, crab, live piggies, and live finger mullet. Fished on the bottom or under a cork over shallow grass, these baits will attract redfish anywhere. Anywhere you find concentrations of bait fish would be a good place to look or on a shoreline exposed to the wind near deep water. Come down to Rockport to fish for big redfish during the summer or early fall.
Check out our "Cast and Blast" trips too! Call: 956-607-7200 to reserve or visit:  www.fishelcanelo.com.

7-15-10  Hello Friends, The high water from Alex finally receded and the fish seem to be back on their normal patterns. Limits or near limits of Reds have been common with some really nice fish caught this past week. I found them in the flats and along the Bay shore in water 1 to 2 ft. deep. They were usually around scattered grass and sand. The secret was to find the Mullet schools, sit up, and wait until they showed up. Live finger Mullet and cut Menhaden was the bait of choice.

7-15-10  Fishing continues to be good between windstorms. Were trout fishing in Nueces Bay. It's full of shell reefs and mud and gets blown out easily but were getting our fish there wind permitting. Aransa Bay and flats usually remains clear enough to fish but trout and reds here have been hard to find but were getting pretty good results fishing for reds with live croaker, cut shad, and cut skipjack. Were picking up some trout as well while fishing for reds. The wind is calming down now so I expect fishing to return to normal so let me hear from you.  CALL ME: 361-774-3817

7-15-10 I thought that the water would have started falling out from the hurricane a few days after it had made landfall, but it didn't. The water stayed high and then we got another big surge of water in the bays about a week ago (which was a big surprise to me). The trout bite had been excellent for me several days after the storm, and during our big surge of incoming water, but now the water level has fallen out quite a bit, and the trout bite has become a little bit tuff due to high winds the last few days and the lack of incoming tides. The reds are more concentrated and still easy to catch if they would stay put. The reds tend to be on the move sort of speak, and not holding in the same area/spot day after day. Wade fishing for trout has been the "top producer" while throwing live croaker and/or plastic artificials along our shorelines. Redfish are in the flats and along portions of shorelines up in the north country. While drifting the flats I've also been able to put together some pretty good boxes of fish. The reefs out in the middle of the bays are also holding good numbers of keeper trout, a few reds and some black drum up in bays such as Carlos, Mesquite, and San Antonio. Hopefully we will get some water back in the bays before long and our trout bite will once again pick back up. If it doesn't, look for the redfish to be my main priority while our water levels stay low with minimal incoming tides.  Call me: 361-534-4007

7-15-2010  Hello again readers, Capt. Jeremy here. With the high water finally back down to normal the fishing is alot easier than it was a week ago. Although I will say fishing in those conditions can be interesting and quite an adventure. I ran into the back lakes of San Jose island in places you wouldn't dream of attempting on a regular tide. There really were not a whole lot of fish way back there but it was fun exploring. I found two different pods of redfish and pulled one nice red out of each one. As the water fell out of the lakes there were plenty of reds and black drum flushing out to Aransas Bay. You could fish at the mouth of these sloughs and pick up a good box of fish. Out in front of Allyn's bite and fence lake is where we caught most of our fish. Since the water has been down I've found nice redfish on the south end of mud island. Live or cut mullet worked great. We have been finding specks on the outside of Traylor island on live croaker and piggie perch. Just fish over the grass beds and make several moves until you find them. Sometimes the fish are only fifty to a hundred yards away from you, so a far move is not always necessary. We can expect the fishing to improve from here on out as long as the tidal surges from tropical storms stay away from us.Until next time everyone be safe out on the water and good luck

OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE - MOST REASONABLE RATES YOU'LL FIND!     TRAVEL IN DRY COMFORT AND SAFETY IS ALWAYS RULE # 1.

7-15-10  Well after canceling a few trips from hurricane Alex fishing has improved. The much needed rain and high tides kept boats off the water for the July 4th holiday so the fish are spooked less by boat noises and allowing better site casting opportunities. The flats are clearing the trout bite is starting to improve and the redfish have been thick and schooling in larger numbers. So don’t wait any longer now is the time to book your trip. Call me at (361) 463-6545 to make memorizes for your family they will never forget. Reds and black drum or feeding up shallow (6”-12”) in the lakes early and drop down to the deeper flats 14”-36” towards the afternoon as temperatures rise. I am finding the trout along the grass lines fishing with free lined croaker on the outside of Traylor, and mud Inland (Fish Pot Holes Around Shoreline) be sure you find the bait look for the birds or slicks. We have been getting several 5-8 lb trout most of these are coming from shallow shoreline pot holes but the smaller trout 14-20 are a bit deeper within 5 feet from the grassline. Reds we have been getting them drifting the flats with gold weedless spoon or live shrimp under popping cork once you find that consistent drift that is productive anchor and fish on bottom with cut skipjack, cut mullet or finger mullet.

7-15-10  These storms have sure got brought lots of water to our area. Tides are way above normal and the rains have brought lots of influx of fresh water. The reds have retreated to the lakes off the flats, for most boats these lakes are un-accessible because they are so shallow. Most boats can get into them now and that's where the reds are hiding. I've also found them in Blind Pass across the bay and up in Allyn's Byte. The Manhadden shad have shown up and are excellent redfish bait along with live or cut mullet. If you catch a skip jack then cut it up and use it for bait also. I haven't seen very many trout being caught but they are usually in the same waters as the reds, just keep looking and keep trying because they are there.

7-16-10  Fishing for us finally improved when the water level dropped back to normal. It was really tough for a while with the tropical lows pushing so much water into the bays and at the same time all the fresh water from the heavy rains contributing. we have been caching Redfish on live shrimp in the sand pockets along San Jose and also down in Corpus Christi Bay between East Flats and Shamrock. A few good Trout on Piggies in the same areas and on the well pads in Aransas Bay. If we continue to have normal tides, this pattern should continue. However, any time we have variable and high winds and or radical fluctuations in tide level just be aware that it complicates locating fish.
Thanks & Good Fishing to You!

CURRENT FISHING REPORT

7-15-10 Hello Everybody,

Today the wind finally laid down and there are no storms in the gulf. For a while at least their conditions should be favorable. Trout are eating piggy perch and croaker. there are numerous undersize fish over the entire fishery. You have to sort through the small fish to box a keeper. That is simply the way that it is. Reds are in the flats eating the same baits, but the best bite is around lunch when the water heats up. Nice weather, fish in the box, a day with family and friends--How does a summer day get any better.

7-15-10 Hello Fishermen, Well the one thing to talk about is Alex and then when everything was getting back to normal we had another tropical strom that also brought alot of rain but overall fishing is getting back to normal. We had real high tides through both storms and alot of rain. As of today the 14th of July, the winds are coming down and tides are getting back right. The fish are here we have to have good weather to catch them. With nothing in the tropics now is the time to ome on down and take advantage of this weather. Until next time good fishing and safe hunting.

7-15-10 After a near miss from hurricane Alex and a brush with a tropical storm things are starting to improve. The tide is still above normal but is steadily going back down. The reds should starting heading back to their normal summertime spots and skinny water fishing should improve. The Super Flats and Mud Island Flats have been holding some reds. They are hanging around groups of hardheads. Find the mud spots and you should find the reds. When you do toss a crab or shrimp pattern at them and see what happens. A gold spoon or Killer Flats Minnow should work too. With this heat comes my "Beat the Heat" Special. Mention the special and get $125 off a half or 3/4 day trip. In the meantime...

6-17-10 Greetings, Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer! Fishing has been good to excellent! Redfish have been fairly easy to find and catch all over the flats esp. wherever there is shell with grass beds close by. We've been throwing live finger mullet, cut menhaden and pin perch with great results on reds up to 32 inches!! Trout have been good on croaker in a little deeper water esp. on a hard moving tide. The terns have really been helping me locate the trout. If terns are diving on glass minnows the trout are there!! I've also been running down to the Lower Laguna where the trout are bigger and more plentiful so if that's your fancy we can get it done. NO OIL anywhere near here (Thank Goodness).  So plan a trip down here and have a blast! Give me a call and we'll hook up

120% PURE FISHING EXCITEMENT

Visit: www.tigernetfishguideservice.com

7-15-10 Hello To Everyone, Here lately we have had some strange, but great days on the water. A few days ago the clients caught 35 plus Trout, mostly too small, but put some in the box, and missed several-several good fish. I would rather have had more to clean, but the clients had a great time and that is what it is all about. We were using croakers in 4-6 foot deep potholes and hitting fish quite often. Then we went Red fishing for the rest of the day. The tide was not moving so we were lucky to get the Reds we did. We used fresh cut mullet in pot holes 2-3 foot deep and did OK. Now what is ironic about this story is a buddy of mine named Spense and I went into the same area, wade fished, use the same bait, and hammered 23 to 25 inch Reds. We caught 16 Reds within an hour and 15 minutes and decided to leave that huge school for another day. It proves you can't get a hit unless you take a swing and you can't catch fish unless you go fishing!!! Please give us a call and book a trip or two. We have ordered a new Haynie Cat that should be in any day now, so lets go fishing and break it in. Please give us a call on our Rockport #432-349-0353, or e-mail us tigernet@cableone.net, or check out our website: www.tigernetfishguideservice.com.  Also, please read our July Article and please book a trip, or two, with us.
