CURRENT FISHING REPORT
3-1-10
Hello Everybody, the weather seems to be headed in the right direction. We
are getting warmer days than in past weeks and I am confident the trend
will continue. The water is in great shape. Red fish are in the flats
eating shrimp, mud minnows, and the occasional sea lice. Trout are still
in some area bays are taking soft plastics. Wading will produce more fish
than drifting. Overall fishing is about an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. March
is shaping to be a great month I think. It may be a tad cooler than
normal, but the fish will be there and they will cooperate. Spring break
is in March so everyone is ready for a quick trip to the coast. There are
activities here for the entire family. Call you favorite fishing and
making fishing part of your visit. You will not regret it.

3-1-10 Hello Friends, Once again
our fishing pretty much remains the same. We are still catching some nice
Reds on the days between the fronts. Over the past week our water temp
went down and the fishing slowed somewhat. However, later in the day when
the Sun is out, the fish are becoming more active. I'm still using fresh
dead Shrimp and cut Mullet. The deeper areas of the flats and the drains
off the back lakes have been my go to places. I'm still looking for any
bait activity and fishing these areas when it is spotted. The fishing
should be great when we get a few days in the 70's and the water warms.
Spring break is right around the corner and hopefully the weather will be
nice.

3-1-10 Still too cold for any
consistent numbers of trout. A few big trout are being caught but even
that is not consistent from one day to the next. The good news is the reds
are still plentiful. Likewise the black drum. The larger (over 30 inches)
black drum are just starting to show up. If you want to catch a 30 to 45
inch black drum for a picture and the thrill of catching it, the time is
now. Any time the water is moving in certain deep channels the oversized
drum are feeding. We often fish for oversized black drum until the guests
are tired of reeling them in and then turn to redfish for the rest of thee
day. My prediction is that trout fishing will be great as soon as we get a
past due warming trend.

3-1-10 Greetings,
well things are starting to turn a bit. As I'm writing this we are
having our fifth day in a row of sunshine and warmer temps......The fish
are liking it also!!! I've been having a reely good bite, especially in
the mid afternoon with reds to 27in. and trout to 24in......all on cut
mullet or crab. These fish are in some REALLY skinny water on mud and
scattered shell esp. on a lower tide. No early dock time needed these
days.....sleep in, fish in the afternoon. Get on down here and get ya
some beautiful warmer weather and great fishing action!
Always keep'n it

This full moon has the redfish biting later in the day, but they have
really been biting good, the weird thing is one day they want dead shrimp
and the next day they want live finger mullet or cut mullet. South Bay has
really been producing this week, and there are a lot of puppy drum being
caught also.

Before the front, or two days after, that is the key for nice weather
and a full box of fish. Redfish have been very reliable in the guts and
off the drops when
the tides are low. Live or dead shrimp will both work. Cracked crabs or
Sea lice will also work when available. On the days the tides are up and
moving, drifting with shrimp and popping corks have been very effective
on the flats. Redfish and Trout are both active during the warm
afternoon. If you are looking for something really big Bull Black Drum
have been in the flats recently. They can also be found in the ship
channel.

3-1-10 Spring is just around the corner and I, for one, can't wait.
It's been a long, cold, wet winter and I'm ready for some warmer weather.
Spring is when the flats and back lakes come alive and we should start
seeing the big schools of redfish terrorizing the bait. Get your top
waters ready because it's going to be fun. Actually we've been having some
fun lately. Terry Deeds and Bruce Pershing fished with me last week and we
got into some exciting sight fishing in Redfish Bay. The Texas Tackle
Factory Flats Killer Minnows were the ticket. We caught several mid-slot
reds sight fishing over areas of sand and grass in about a foot of water.
Terry hooked a really big trout but lost it close to the boat. Bruce
caught his personal best, 27" trout, a couple weeks ago fishing with me.
Several big trout are roaming Redfish Bay so be sure to keep an eye out
for them. Get those spring time honey-dos done and get done here for some
sight fishing. I have plenty of open dates at this point so give me a call
and let's go hunt some fish.

Looks as if we are finally going to get a little warm up coming soon. As I
write this report (February 28th) have just looked at the predictions for
the next ten days and the last time I see a forecast for a low temperature
in the 40s is for March 2. By the end of March, I hope to see bait stands
with Shrimp flags flying and by the end of April Croaker flags. The water
temp is just exceptionally cold right now and you can catch redfish if you
want to boat fish and chunk cut bait which as those of you who know me
understand that is not my style. I want to walk and stalk! End of April
marks my start, so give us a call if wade fishing is your cup of tea!
Good Fishing to You!

REASONABLE RATES YOU'LL FIND! TRAVEL IN DRY
COMFORT AND SAFETY IS ALWAYS RULE # 1.
3-1-10 Not much
seems to be changing as the cold fronts are still moving in which
translates to cooler water temperatures and low tides. We are going
through that annual transition where the fish are moving to the warmer
guts in the flats. They are biting fairly heavy on most of the drop offs
in the inter-coastal close to the flats. Just look for the bait. South bay
and Sailboat channel is where you want to head with northwest winds. The
redfish have started showing up over mud in Estes Flats along the channels
and guts. I have been catching them with soft plastics, with a real slow
presentation. Be sure to use a 1/8-ounce jig head as most bites are coming
from on or near the bottom. Live shrimp has also been producing some nice
fish under Alameda rattler with a 36" leader, or on the bottom. So what
are you waiting for get your jacket and let’s catch some redfish and drum.

Technically there has not been a change since my last report. Redfish
and black drum are "the ticket" right now. Best baits have still been
mullet and shrimp fished on the bottom. Our water is cold and the fish
are not chasing down their food, so fishing a tight line on bottom has
been best.
Trout are still slow, but if you're willing to get out of the boat and
wade fish, there has been a few fish willing to eat lures. Best to start
your trout fishing later in the days and fish until dark. Concentrate
your efforts near the sharp breaks leading into the channels and deep
guts. Slow sinking lures such as Corky's and small plastics on the
lightest jig head you can find have been best. Warmer weather is just
around the corner and fishing patterns should start changing before
long. keep your chin up, things are gonna bust loose here in the near
future!

3-1-10 Fishing for black drum has
been the best bet lately for putting fish in the box. Were using shrimp
threaded on a 1/4 oz. jighead on the bottom. Were also getting a few reds
using this rid as well. The water is still very cold and I'm hoping it
will warm up soon. As it does the fishing should improve. Trout are in the
deeper holes and channels but many are small throw-backs. Were getting
them on gulps worked slowly along the bottom. Call Capt Ron at 361-356-1144, book a trip.

2-15-10 There is not much to
report so far in February except bad weather for fishing. I have been able
to fish a couple of days and there are a ton of 14 inch trout in our bays
They are biting lures, plum and glow sand eels produced the most fish .
The better keeper size trout were real shallow in a foot and a half to two
foot of water. The smaller fish were in 3-4 foot of water. We have already
had as much rain this year as we had in September last year. In my 25
years of guiding every year of the El Nino results in great spring
fishing. Rain does wonders for our bays and marshes. There is still no
live bait down here but a couple of my friends who catch live bait have
started to catch a few live shrimp up around Port Lavaca. I t will not be
much longer and live shrimp will be available. This next week following
February 14th is supposed to be real nice weather I sure hope so. It's
almost time to really start fishing for real so now is the time to get
ready, I am real excited for spring and big trout to return!
Good fishing to you all!

I hope your weeks are going well and you are getting fired up for some
great fishing trips. The weather has been in the mid to high 60's with an
occasional shower...beautiful. The fishing is heating up also just read
the following report. A friend of mine called me the other day and was
some kind of excited. He, his son, and the two grand kids caught "45"
Reds, nine of which were keepers up to 25 inches. Wow!!! Needless to say
they were all "some kind of excited". My buddy loves to fish and to be
able to have this priceless experience with his family
is...well...priceless. He told me the fish would play with the live
shrimp, but would inhale the dead. This stands to reason because the water
is still a little cool and an easy meal is the ticket. I told him for the
March 1st report I would save mine for another issue and I would include
his this time. Well there it is! "Spense" if I would have had ya'll's
picture I would have included it too. Maybe another day. As far a YOUR

2-15-10 Finally we can
see the light at the end of the tunnel. Spring is just around the corner. As
the water warms, speckled trout will start to move to shallow water. The big
"sow trout" should start their annual spawning run. Most bays are in very
good condition with salinity almost idea for this time of year. Look for
bait and birds to find fish. Trout should be staging along drop offs and
channel edges. Top water baits and plastics will produce well, but bait such
as live shrimp and mullet is also winners. Its is time to book your spring
fishing trips. Give us a call and spend a spring day on the bay around

The flounder are back! The 2009 Fall flounder run was one for the
record books, even though we could not gig during November and had lower
limits(5). It seems as though the flounder had a very good year up and
down the coast, as was evidenced by the strong run of large fish into late
December. We think that the lower limits and gig closure during November
is going to pay off in a big way in the next few years. These new
regulations will likely make it much easier to find quality flounder
during the spring and summer, and we are already starting to see the
positive effects. After a month of not going gigging, we finally
fired the boat up last night to see if any flounder have showed up in the
back bays. It was a simple scouting trip to look for fish and see if
recent rains have had any effect on water clarity in our usual springtime
spots. In the past, these mid-February scouting trips have usually
resulted in seeing many undersized flounder (non-spawners) with an
occasional keeper fish. We pulled up to our first spot of the night, and
started the airMotor to get us the remaining 100 yards to shore. Before we
made it to the bank we had seen 3 keeper size flounder and several fresh
beds. As we made it into the shallow water near the bank, we realized we
had stumbled on the mother load... There was a flounder about every 30
feet down the bank, with countless fresh beds all around. In the first 5
minutes, we saw approx 20 keeper flounder, with most being 16-18". Since
we were strictly scouting, we decided to not to gig anything, but just to
look at potential areas for upcoming trips. A few minutes later, we
decided to leave the area to see if the same thing was happening in other
locales. We made about a 20 minute boat ride to another shallow cove and
pulled in on the bank. Here, we did not see any flounder for about 10
minutes, but the first one we came across was at least 25". We continued
down the shoreline for another 15 minutes, seeing six more flounder that
were all over 20" (no small flounder in sight!). It was great seeing all
those big flounder back in the bay doing there thing, and even better
knowing that the population may be coming back in a big way...But, it was
very hard to resist sticking a gig in them... By the way, we have
just finished construction of our new flounder boat. It offers the latest
in customer comfort and safety, including: full interior LED lighting,
swivel bucket seats with airRide, custom memory foam front seat with
backrest, new handrails near console and rear seating areas, and a fully
enclosed back deck. The boat is powered by a new 115 Evinrude E-tec and a
new 20hp. Honda airMotor with a new quiet-tip prop and custom mufflers.
