7-1-2015  Iím sure most of us have had enough rain to last us for a while over the last few weeks, I know I have. All the run off is helping out our bays tremendously though! Some of our bays are really fresh with all the run off, but where I primarily fish the water looks great! With the rain, it has kept our water temps down a little too. Iíve only had a couple of days having to cancel due to the rain, but all the other days Iíve been limiting my clients out on their redfish. A couple days there I didnít quite make their limit, but was only off one or two fish. For those of you that have fished with me before, Hey I canít be perfect every day. Iíve also been able to locate some black drum to add to the box this last week so long as they ďstay putĒ and not leave the area. Thankfully their bite has been a little later so that I can get my redfish first.  I donít do much trout fishing these days, but I still fish for them with the clients that like to wade fish and have the gear to do so. On the days Iíve fished those clients weíve been able to limit out on the trout as well along with a few reds to boot once theyíve caught their trout.  I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend. As for me, Iíll be out on the water getting my clientís rods bent over and stretching that line!!!

I still have some dates open if you would like to book a trip - Give me call and we'll go stretch some lines!

Until next time remember when the cards are down and the bet is called, you still have your ...

Ace in the Hole!

FLOUNDER GIGGING AT NIGHT IS FANTASTIC!

7-1-2015: Happy 4TH OF JULY, Gigging Fans!  The past week and a half the gigging has been a little tougher than usual. We were fighting to contain the dirty water and there was hardly any tidal movement. As always, I am down for some gigging in just about any conditions and will try my hardest to get us on the flounder. We were still able to put limits of flounder in the box, but it was taking a lot of hopping around from one hot spot to another to locate the fish.  As of 6/27, we are finally on a hard-falling tide early in the night making for some great gigging action. The tide is pulling crystal clear water and flatties off of the big shallow flats.  Most of the flounder are ranging from 15 to 18 inches. We have seen very few drum and sheepshead.

MORE BIG FISH GUIDE SERVICE

Fish the bays and flats surrounding Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Rockport, and Corpus Christi with Capt. Ron.

Our area is home to some of the most fertile fishing grounds found on the Texas Gulf Coast.  Whether your desire is fishing for trophy speckled trout, monster bull redfish, wade fishing, fly fishing, or fishing with artificial lures, Capt. Ron can take care of everything for your next fishing trip.

7-1-2015: Trout fishing has been good this season and I don't expect that to change for some time. Live piggies and croaker have been the bait of choice. Were getting limits of nice size trout 18 to 20 inches on the reefs in Aransas bay and along the shorelines where you will find grass beds. There are also some large trout mixed in. Redfish seem to be spotty around on the flats. Were catching them but it is a little unpredictable as to where they're going to be. Cut shad has been the best bait. Cut mullet has been good as well. The reds will be forming schools pretty soon. August and September are prime months to get in on some of the redfish action and now is the time to enjoy a great trout season.

Catching trout on croaker along sand grass shorelines and over deep shell reefs in four to five feet of water. Still picking up black drum with shrimp on shell reefs. 7-1-2015: Floundering has been on FIRE to say the least the last couple of weeks!! We have been giggin limits of flounder in roughly two hours with some trips even quicker than that. We have been giggin flounder from the 15" - 21" range and they have been averaging 2-3 lbs. Most fish lately have been gigged up pretty shallow on sand/mud/grass edges of channels. I expect the floundering to get even better in the next few weeks with an average water temperature at about 79 degrees. Also, as the hotter dog days of Summer arrive the winds will lay down and make for some spectacular nights of flounder giggin on the water. I am booking early as well as late trips to accommodate everyone's needs. So if you are able to have a flexible schedule I will be able to fit you into pretty much any night that I can. So contact me by phone or email at any time so we can get you booked and go gig some flounder!!

7-1-2015: Someone turned up the heat!!! It's getting hot, tides are dropping lower and the fish are going deeper. Get out early and target the shallow pot holes 1st thing. Free-lining croaker is working best for the trout. After it starts warming up, the trout tend to move to deeper water where it's cooler. Target the deeper water 5 to 6 feet deep and after you find them work the area thoroughly. Look for drum schooling along shorelines. Fresh dead shrimp either freelined or with a small egg weight above the leader is working best.  Upper Laguna: Trout are being caught along the deeper side of the spoils. Free-lining croaker is working best. Reds are scattered in small schools. Working the King Ranch shoreline with live finger mullet has brought us the best results.

7-1-16-2015 Hello to all!  The month of June was a hot month for trout. Limits were brought in daily on live croaker. Fish for the trout in 3 to 5 feet of water around grass beds and shell. In the next couple of weeks we should be getting some piggy perch in for bait. The piggies bring a lot to offer for both trout and redfish. I can't wait to throw them. The Redfish bite has been good later in the day with daytime heating. Look for these fish in 1 to 2 feet of water in the sand pockets and shell. The bait of choice is pin perch, shad or mullet. The Drum fishing has been good also on shrimp. Large schools have been seen in different areas making them easy to target with limits. I would say June has been very productive for all species. July will be a little hotter weather and a hotter bite for sure. So come on down enjoy what we have to offer.

7-1-2015  Black Drum: We have had extremely high tides the last few weeks and since the falling of the high tides the black drum fishing has been great on dead shrimp near drop offs and grass lines near reefs free lined or on 1/8 oz. jig heads. Speckled Trout: Fishing has been really good as well on live Croaker either free lined or under shakers about 1-2í, fishing 4-6í of water with grass beds look for sweet smelling slicks that pop and fish close to them. Donít be afraid to get out of the boat and wade those trout also. Wading can be very productive and donít forget to work those croaker. Redfish: They can be found up tight over grass on topwaters wade them slow in about.1-2í of water. Remember it is getting hot out there so donít forget to stay hydrated and be aware of the signs of heat stress related issues.

6-16-2015:  Hello Everybody,  Trout fishing is "spec"tacular with boat limits occurring daily. Croaker is the bait of choice and the occasional big fish is being boated as well. The weather has been super. reds are in the flats but are a bit more challenging. One day they are there and we do well and the next day poof they are gone. Overall things are well as you would expect and boat traffic is still light except for Fridays and Saturdays. Most guides still have a few open days so give one a call and come to the Coast. I think that you will be glad you did!

6-16-2015: We are still catching some nice box's of fish this week. We have been catching almost all are keeper's from large schools due to fishing pressure and low tide conditions they are schooled up. I would start out checking drop offs close to deeper water Dagger, Sunray, mud Island, and sailboat channel in redfish bay would be some great areas to start. Dead shrimp has been bait of choice while fishing the schools. Out of Corpus Christi if you start around bird inland work south drifting the west spoils will produce some nice trout. I have been getting them with soft plastics or throwing free lined croaker. Give me a call at 361 463-6545 to reserve your next business or family fishing trip.
