OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE - MOST REASONABLE RATES YOU'LL FIND!     TRAVEL IN DRY COMFORT AND SAFETY IS ALWAYS RULE # 1.

2-1-10  Much cooler water temperatures and low tides has been the recipe for a box of redfish. We are going through that annual transition where the fish are moving to the warmer guts in the flats. They are biting fairly heavy on most of the drop offs in the inter-coastal close to the flats. Just look for the bait. South bay and Sailboat channel is where you want to head with northwest winds. The redfish have started showing up over mud in Estes Flats along the channels and guts.
I have been catching them with soft plastics, with a real slow presentation. Be sure to use a 1/8-ounce jig head as most bites are coming from on or near the bottom. Live shrimp has also been producing some nice fish under Alameda rattler with a 36" leader, or on the bottom. So what are you waiting for get your jacket and let’s catch some redfish and drum. Book your trip now spring break is just around the corner.

2-2-10  Redfish action has been good on the recent periods of very low tides. Sea lice and peeled shrimp have been the best bait for them. Were catching them along drop-offs when the tide is very low. Trout action has been all on soft plastics worked along the edges of the ICW and other deep waterways and channels. Darker colors have been working the best. I'm looking for large trout to be on the flats and some shorelines later this month. Its a good time to try for that trophy.

2-1-10  We have been out of town so my fishing report will be from research and friends that I chat with about the weather, etc. To summarize several of our conversations it probably was just as well we were out of pocket because the weather in Rockport America has been cold and wet at best the last two weeks. The fishing has not been much better, but good times are coming. You're starting to see the temperature beginning to rise just a little and believe me the Reds and the Trout notice the change just as we do. Sheeps Head are beginning to show in greater and greater numbers with an occasional good box of Reds and Trout to boot. Don't get me wrong a bad day fishing is still better than digging some of the ditches I dug in the in the West Texas Oil Fields, so fish when and if you can. On cold mornings look for deep 4 to 6 foot drop offs especially coming off the flats. Guts between islands can be very favorable in producing slot fish. The Intracoastal Waterway drop-offs can also be exciting in producing good stringers because fish move up and down the "Highway". Use mullet and shrimp, live or dead, if you can find a place to buy them. Again, the weather is beginning to warm and the fish are going to do the same, so give us a call (Rockport number 432-349-0353), and let me book you a trip. You can also contact us via our website www.tigernetfishguideservice.com,  click "contact us", fill out the information, and hit "send", or by our e-mail... tigernet@cableone.net, and inform us of what you need as far as a good fishing trip. We will do the rest including tentatively booking you a room at the popular and beautiful Light House Inn if available!.

CURRENT FISHING REPORT

2-1-10 Hello Everybody, Red fish are in the flats eating shrimp and live finger mullet. Black drum are also eating shrimp. Your better reds are coming on mullet. You will catch a lot of “Rat Reds” on shrimp with keepers mixed in. A super low tide is working better at the moment. Trout, up to 25 inches, are eating soft plastics on a 1/8 ounce jig head worked slowly over grass and the deeper shell. Drifting will work, but wading will produce more and better fish. Get out and enjoy this time of the year. A day on the water can be very pleasant and rewarding.

2-1-10 Hello everyone. Not much has changed ; still picking up great boxes of fish while wading or in the boat. We are still fishing with Berkley Gulp Plastics in color of Nuclear Chicken but have fished some with Black Magic w/ Chartreuse tail and still carry some shrimp for black drum or aka " Convicts" because of being black and white striped. I have to admit that I wish I could go out and gig some flounder but that will not start until late March and run through end of October. I like the summer months of June , July , August , September and October . If you have not called me yet ; I suggest you do and do a Flounder Gigging Trip or a Combo Trip of fishing for reds from 4:30 till dark and then we gigg flounder till midnight. That's a trip to do and you will want to go again ; I am almost certain of it...

2-1-10  Hello Friends, I know these reports get a little boring but that is what Winter fishing is all about. On the pretty days we go out and Reds and Drum are fairly easy to find. They are usually in the deeper areas of the flats or along the drop offs. Dead Shrimp or cut Mullet will usually result in some nice boxes of fish. I did one Trout trip this last week along the King Ranch shoreline and had good success. We caught two limits of Trout using white Gulp Shrimp on a 1/8 oz jighead. Took us a couple of hours to figure out the bite but it was steady all afternoon. The Trout would hit when you drug the bait through the mud instead of hopping it along the bottom. It had to be really slow or they wouldn't hit it. Most of the fish were caught in 4 to 6 feet of water over a muddy bottom. In a few weeks the big Trout bite should start and it looks like the fishing will be much better than last year. We've had lots of fresh water enter the Bay and it looks great. I'm now booking trips for this year so if your interested in spending a great day on the water, give me a call.  Until next time, here's hoping you have tight lines and full stringers!

2-1-10  We're still enjoying excellent fishing for redfish and black drum. This past week I only had customers two days. We limited one day on redfish using artificial lures and one day on black drum using shrimp. A third day I fished with a friend since I had no customers and wanted to fish for trout with artificial lures. Trout were mostly small but I did catch and release a 24" trout. Most years a 24" trout wouldn't be worth mentioning but this year we've not had good trout fishing weather. We've experienced lots of cold and windy weather the last 2 months but as soon as the weather warms for a few days I expect trout fishing to be great. I know many potential customers are put off by cold windy weather but we've actually had our best catches of redfish and black drum during cold fronts with strong north winds rather than the pleasant days. February is big drum and big trout time. The black drum have to be released because it's not legal to keep a drum over 30" in length but they make great photographs. Often we have children catch black drum so big they can't lift them. These fish generally range form 30" to near 50" in length. I normally find the biggest trout in the upper Laguna Madre/Baffin bay area. My two scouting trips there recently didn't give me reason to take customers there yet this year but that will change any day now and when it does I want to be there with someone who wants to catch a lifetime personal best trout.

2-1-10 Greetings........Not a whole lot to report here. The few times I've been able to get out due to weather conditions we've been catching a few black drum and reds anywhere there's soft mud at the edges of deeper water. Good news is we've had no fish kill due to extreme low water temps around here but up north of here they took a little hit. Good news also is better weather is just around the corner and things will break open (better fishing). Around Valentines day the BIG DRUM will turn on and they're always fun on light tackle. Also BIG TROUT time is coming so make plans and get down here and get ya some
Always keep'n it FOR THE REEL,

2-1-10  Finally a fantastic fishing report, the reds have cranked up and are doing what they should be doing in January. They are really hungry and aggressively biting, they are biting on fresh dead shrimp, the frozen doesn't seem to as effective. I have found them from South Bay to the area in front of Palm Harbor, but in both areas they are in extremely shallow water. If in San Antonio come by the Boat show and say hello, I'll be there.

2-1-10  If you time your trips between the fronts I would have to say that the fishing is good. I have had some very good trips. With the lower tides and cooler temps
Redfish have been holding in the deeper holes and guts. South Bay and Redfish Bay have been producing best. Live mullet, cut mullet and fresh dead shrimp have
all been productive. Black Drum are also a real possibility . They prefer dead shrimp or cracked crab. Drifting with plastics in Estes Flats or Dagger Island will produce nice Trout. Popping corks and shrimp will also work.

2-1-10  Timing is everything. Time your fishing trips to the weather. During late winter and spring, look for warming trends and frontal passages. When water temperatures begin to increase, plan a trip to the Rockport / Port Aransas area for a day of bay fishing. Redfish and black drum will be concentrated in water which is warming and trout will be on mud and shell bottom near deep water. Always use birds as a key indicator. They will be on bait and the fish will be near by. Give me a call and I will let you know when conditions are ideal. Remember, Spring is just around the corner and I am booking bay fishing trips for spring and summer. We are looking forward to another banner year for big trout. The unfortunate fish kill which was very limited shows the bays are packed with big trout. Book early for those April and May bay fishing trips and the July and August trips to the San Jose Island surf. Give me a call for a bay fishing trip to remember.

2-1-10 I never thought I'd say this but I'm ready for Spring. Winter is normally my favorite season but this one has been too cold and too wet. I'm ready for some warmer weather. I think the fish are too. Skinny water fishing has been hit or miss lately. There have been plenty of fish up on the flats including a lot of big trout but getting them to eat had been an issue. I recently had a two day trip with a couple of guys from San Antonio. On day one we managed 3 small reds and then on day 2 we caught 25 reds that were mostly slot fish. Better days are ahead. The fish we've been catching have been in water 12" to 18" over soft mud and grass. Flats Killer Minnows worked slowly in the potholes have been the ticket. Liquid shrimp, red/white and pumpkinseed/chartreuse have worked well. I have not had many fly fishing trips lately but mullet patterns would work if you are tossing feathers. Hopefully the weather will finally settle out and fishing will turn on. I still have several days left in February for my Winter Special so give me a call and we'll go hunt some fish.

2-1-10 Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sure getting cabin fever with all this bad cold weather and been spending way too much time on E-Bay auctions trying to add a few old fishing lures to my collection when I could be fishing if we could get just a little warm up. We fished a little last week -- caught a few sheepshead on HEB table shrimp. Should have just eaten the shrimp! Good news, though we're two weeks closer to great fishing than we were when I wrote my last "report?" Now, Valentines day is about the time we start catching those big oversized catch-and-release drum. Shortly after that we'll begin to get into the trout season, so get ready! We Are! 1-22-10  The past two weeks for me has been good except for the cold blast we had here.. Trout fishing has been slow, but the redfish have been easy to catch due to the water levels being really low. All the deeper channels surrounding the flats have been good, along with the breaks on our outside beaches. Cut mullet has been my preferred bait if my clients are not willing to throw artificials. Duck season is coming to a close this coming weekend. After it closes I will be conducting my hog and javalina hunts through most of February except for a few days that I have booked for fishing. I always have room for those of you wanting to brave the elements out on the water this time of year, or I'll have room for those of you that might want to get in on a good hog and javalina hunt.

Experienced South Texas Fishing Guide with knowledge of Aransas Bay, Redfish Bay, Estes Flats, Mudd Island, St. Joe Island, St. Charles Bay, Mesquite Bay, and Baffin Bay.

Trophy Specks & Reds, Flounder

and Black Drum

A rich combination of vast oyster reefs, bay systems, grass flats, and the exchange of water from the Gulf of Mexico through the jetties makes the fishing down here in the Rockport area so special.  Create an experience that will last a lifetime!  He offers all types of fishing:

WADE FISHING    LURE & BAIT FISHING    DRIFT FISHING    FLY FISHING

2-2-10  February may not be the best month to fish if you use live bait. But if your looking for great big trout this could be your month. With no live bait available lures will be your next best bet. The Berkley gulp or a slow sinking bait worked super slow. Also sand eels this time of year also worked real slow. You need to target a soft mud bottom with broken shell. I will mostly use the gulp drifting or wading shallow grass flats. As the water warms during the coarse of the day, trout and redfish will move from the deeper drop offs to the shallower water to feed. This does not happen every day so you have to be patient. The colors I like for the above mentioned lures would be plum with a chartreuse tail, glow with a chartreuse tail. straight motor oil and motor oil with chartreuse tail also try each lure with fire tail. Winter time fishing is all about fishing slow. It's good to have a power pole when drifting so you can stop the boat and work an area you like over good. Sometimes you drift to fast and pass over good areas to fast. Take your time and be patient for that big girl. Do not forget to work the drop offs. It can all be good. February is also a good month to get your boat ready for spring. With all the rain this spring spawn should be great. I am excited.

Good fishing to you all!
Capt. Randy Hoyt
