May has arrived and if I have said it once I have
said it 100 times - if you are going fishing
this summer better book your trip now as popular dates are filling-up
fast! Book the date/dates you want to fish and allow me the
pleasure of taking you!
When school is out - really hold on to your
hat. The fever to get to the water should get crazy and especially for
weekends. Again, please
BOOK
YOUR TRIPS NOW, so you and your family are not disappointed.
I am also getting calls for week-day wade trips. HALLELUIAH!!! In my
opinion wading is one of the best, most productive ways to catch limits
of fish. It is not guaranteed, but your chances drastically increase.
I have mentioned it past reports that last
summer we were inundated with rain. In other words not much fishing. I
do not know about you, but fishing in a pouring rain storm with
lightning all around is not my cup of tea. In other words...
SAFETY IS ALWAYS
PRIORITY # 1.
After all, they're just fish and I will not
gamble with the lives of my clients nor mine. One would be surprised on
how many calls I get from people that inform me they are never going
again to wet a hook with that particular person or that particular
friend. All because that particular individual had not "limited everyone
out" and were not going to the dock until they did. Someone is going to
have to explain to me where fish are more important than ones safety.
Well enough of that! Lets talk about what
we love to do and why
we read these reports...to see who, what , when, and where the fish are.
I received a call today from my favorite Bait Shop asking for my reserve
orders for Croakers. It is "Croaker Time" Friends and the Trout are
proving more than ready to gobble them up. Reds are hammering fingerling
mullets and shrimp. You will occasionally catch a flounder in the mix.
As I have said in the past few reports also use live, or dead, shrimp
under a Popping Cork. We have been using Cajun Thunders with an
approximate 2 foot 30# monofilament leader, and a size 5 hook. Fish for
Trout in 3-5 foot of water and Reds in shin to knee deep water. Be ready
to get spooled.
People ask me how often do I clean my Abu
Garcia Reels. The answer is every time I go fishing in the salt water I
clean them with fresh water at the end of the day. I, also, take the
5500 C3's apart, clean, lubricate, and re-line them at least once a
month... sometimes even more often, depending on the use. We use
American RodSmiths Rods on the boat
with
an excellent performance from the 7 foot Red Fish Bait Casters and Open
Face Series. I use the long butt cork handles to aid in better casting
distance, accuracy, and overall power of the rod. In general they are
just plain good rods.
I have often wanted to write in these
articles instead of me discussing my subjects why don't you readers
e-mail or give a call. I will try my best to answer them. Please
get you and your friends/family together, make plans for a trip to
beautiful Rockport and

PURE FISHING ENJOYMENT!

Why Wade Fish?

This is a question I get asked
frequently and there are several reasons why. The simple answer is
to say we...
CATCH MORE FISH!
But that is usually followed by
another question. "Well,
why do you catch more fish?" Then I explain that if you imagine yourself
as a fish and and a big old piece of something comes floating toward you
that looks like a threat and sounds like a threat (talking about a boat),
what would you do? Stay there or move?
When we wade fish, the first thing we do is get away from the boat far
enough as to not hear any splashing of the water against the anchored
boat. Then we begin stalking fish by seeking out individual pockets of
water that are surrounded by vegetation, shell, or some structural change
no matter how subtle. These structural changes usually hold bait fish,
small crabs or some type of food.
When
there are several wade fishermen in the party, it is important to really
spread out in a pattern so that one is not fishing water that has just
been disturbed. In other words, you should consider that you are sneaking
up on unsuspecting prey just as a cat stalks.
Wade fishing is pure therapy. It can block out the normal worries of the
day as we become totally in touch with the wonders of nature. You can
marvel at the wonders of creation and be thankful just to be part of such
surroundings. To fully reap the
benefits of the day, you must leave your usual "nine-to-five" mental and
physical routine at the dock. We suggest you turn off that cell phone too!
In other words, get wrapped up in pursuing the fish and put everything
else on hold for a while. at the end of the day you may or may not have a
limit of fish, but you will have experienced a day that millions of people
will never know. Lets put the fun and relaxation back into fishing - That's
the way it should be.!

GOOD
FISHING
TO YOU!
